30 YEARS OF CHANGING LIVES
YEARS OF CREATING OPPORTUNITY
TWO SISTERS. TWO FUTURES. ONE CHANCE. REAL PEOPLE. LASTING IMPACT.
$3 MILLION+ IN MARYLAND SCHOLARSHIPS
When a severe back injury changed their family’s circumstances, the road ahead was not certain. But with the support of Kids’ Chance of Maryland, both Arianna and Allayah Jewel found opportunity through education. Today, they are pursuing two different paths, united by a shared goal — to build brighter futures for themselves, to care for their family, and to give back to their communities. The Jewel sisters recently spoke at the Kids’ Chance of Maryland’s Crab Feast to thank KCMD’s leadership, sponsors and supporters for making an incredible difference in their lives. Their message was clear: when you invest in students, you strengthen families and communities for generations. o ge

FROM THE PRESIDENT
What 30 Years Has Taught Us For three decades, Kids’ Chance of Maryland has believed that a family’s tragedy should not determine a student’s future. The Jewel sisters remind us why why this work matters — and what is possible when a community comes together to invest in education. — Edgar G. Doddd, III

Tyzen House is a senior at the Culinary Institute of America, pursuing his passion for culinary arts. He is working to complete his final two semesters and graduate from the program. Tyzen’s path has not been easy. His father suffered a serious workplace accident that required major medical procedures, including the fusion of vertebrae in his neck and the replacement of both hips. He has been classified as disabled and is no longer able to work. His mother, a retired military veteran, has been a sustaining force in the House and Home , providing strength and support for the family while living on a fixed income. Even after applying FAFSA assistance, school awards and small student loans, a significant funding gap remained. Tyzen turned to Kids’ Chance of Maryland for help — and with that support, he is closer to achieving his dream.
This past semester, Tyzen was recognized as one of the top students in his mixology class. His professors have begun using his mixed drinks and cocktails as part of the curriculum, and he has also been given the opportunity to assist with teaching through the work-study program.
Your help has made a tremendous difference in my education and has allowed me to continue building the skills I need for my future career.
