2023 Session Speaker Biographies
WARREN S. ALPERSTEIN, Esq. Mr. Alperstein attended The George Washington University and in 1993 received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. From there, Mr. Alperstein continued his education at the University of Baltimore School of Law, where he received his Juris Doctorate in 1996. While in law school Mr. Alperstein began working as a law clerk for the Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City. After graduation, Mr. Alperstein served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Joseph P. McCurdy, Jr. in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City. Upon completion of his one-year term as a judicial clerk in 1997, Mr. Alperstein accepted a position as an Assistant State’s Attorney in the Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City, where he prosecuted thousands of cases in the district and circuit court. While in the Misdemeanor Jury Trial Unit, Mr. Alperstein was promoted to the Firearms Investigation Violence Enforcement (FIVE) Unit—a unit responsible for prosecuting shootings and violent gun offenders—and worked in conjunction with the United States’ Attorney’s Office. He was the youngest prosecutor to be promoted to this prestigious unit. The experience, knowledge, and most importantly, the relationships he gained during this time inspires a great sense of pride. Mr. Alperstein credits the many clients and referrals he receives today from court staff, prosecutors, and law enforcement personnel who became familiar with his work during his time with the State’s Attorney’s Office. KELLY BARBEN, BSN, RN, CCM Ms. Barben Barben works as a Senior Nurse Case Manager at First Rehabilitation Resources, which is an Education company with an estimated 26 employees; and founded in 1990. They are part of the Social Work team within the Medical & Health Department and their management level is Manager. Kelly is currently based in Laurel, MD. LYNDSEY BEIDLE MENINGER Ms. Beidle Meninger is the Director of Legal Services at Chesapeake Employer’s Insurance. Lyndsey has been with Chesapeake Employers for the last thirteen years and a member of the Maryland bar since 2009. Lyndsey received her Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration from University of Baltimore in 2009. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Washington College in 2006. Additionally, Lyndsey is the President of the Board for the Chesapeake Arts Center in Brooklyn Park, Maryland and Chair of the Law Committee for the American Association of State Compensation Insurance Funds (AASCIF). Lyndsey and her husband, Gary, have two daughters, Hadley and Quinn, and reside in Harford County. KENNETH BERMAN, Esq. Mr. Berman is a founding partner of Berman | Sobin | Gross LLP. From Maryland Workers Compensation cases small and large, to multi-million dollar Personal Injury trials, Ken advocates, and consistently achieves winning results, for his clients. Ken has been instrumental in the passage of many pieces of legislation that have expanded the rights of fire fighters as well as other injured workers. He testifies regularly before the state legislature in Annapolis on pending Workers’ Compensation laws. He served on the Maryland Governor’s Study Commission on Workers’ Compensation Legislation and was Chairman of the Workers’ Compensation section of the Maryland Association of Justice. BARRY D. BERNSTEIN, Esq. Mr. Bernstein is a Principal and Vice Chairman of the Firm’s Workers’ Compensation & Employers’ Liability practice group. He represents employers and insurers in all phases of Workers’ Compensation claims in the State of Maryland and the District of Columbia. He regularly represents clients before the Workers’ Compensation Commission and on the appellate level, including the Maryland Court of Special Appeals and Maryland Court of Appeals. Mr. Bernstein also participates in the defense of mass tort asbestos litigation and lead paint cases. He is responsible for administration of cases at all stages of litigation, including trial and at the appellate level. He was selected as a Maryland “Rising Star” by Baltimore Magazine and Maryland Super Lawyers Magazine 2011-2019. He was also selected by the American Society of Legal Advocates as one of the top 40 Litigation Lawyers under 40 in the State of Maryland 2013-2017. RORBERT BERSHAD, Esq. Mr. Bershad, Esq. is a senior business communications executive with more than 20 years of experience managing legal, political, fund-raising, higher education, and non-profit communications, as well as brand identity and publishing. His proven strengths include leadership, project management and presentation. Bob has an outstanding track-record of strategizing and executing multi-channel digital and print communications strategies that consistently increase organizations’ visibility and revenue.
